34 days.
2,320 miles.
We made it to our brother’s house early this afternoon. He is not actually here, he is working right now, but he stopped in last night at the city park where we were camping to hang out for a few hours which was super awesome. It has been such a long time since we have seen him!
My parents and two of my other brothers are coming to Colorado tomorrow (they are flying in a plane…how weird is that, everyone knows that the best way to get to Colorado is to bike here) and we are all going to Silverthorne, Colorado together.
The mountains are breathtaking, I haven’t seen mountains like these since I was ten years old and I am having a hard time believing that these things are actually real. They are so big!
After settling in at my brother’s house, I went for a two-mile ride to the grocery store and back-it was the most scenic grocery store run I have ever been on in my life. I was so awestruck that I had to keep reminding myself to pay attention to traffic. If I had caused an accident I would have blamed it on the mountains, how dare they be that enchanting!
After I post this, I am going to figure out where I want to ride tomorrow-I can’t wait to get an even closer look at these intimidating, magnificent peaks.
I thought this tour was gonna be fun.
But I didn’t realise it would be this much fun.
I thought we would make some cool memories.
But I never dreamed we would make this many cool memories.
I thought my brother would make a great riding partner.
But I didn’t imagine just how great he would be.
I prayed that God would bless us.
And I feel blessed all the way down to the tips of my toes.
Way to go! What an awesome accomplishment!!! 🙂

Shucks, if you were north of Denver, like in the Fort Collins area, I would totally ride with you and show you around!!

That would be awesome! I would love to ride with you…actually I working on plans of what I want to do after the vacation with my family (I don’t have to be home until August) and heading north is a real possibility 🙂

Well definitely let me know! I can come down to Colorado as well… just not really familiar with stuff outside of the Fort Collins/Loveland area! My boyfriend and I are throwing around the idea of riding some of the higher mountain passes in July as well, like Mt. Evans, Independence Pass

I should have it figured out soon, I will let you know 🙂
I can’t wait to try climbing a mountain pass even though I get scared just looking at these huge mountains…the Adirondacks are tiny bumps comparatively!

NICE…congrats! This is the kind of adventure that creates memories to last a life time and it’s a cherry on top to do it with family. If you’re staying in Colorado Springs you should give riding up pikes peak a go. If not there are plenty of other tough hills around town.

Yeah, I will be in Silverthorne this week, but I will be coming back to hang out with my brother for a few more days after that. By then maybe I will be more acclimated to the higher elevation, I will attempt it for sure…will I make it to the top? Time will tell 🙂

If you do attempt it good luck and enjoy the ride!

Bri, Congratulations on this awesome feat. Glad you all got there safe. Yes Colorado is beautiful and the Springs is closer to the Rockies than Denver or Fort Collins. I was out there in March for work. Two weeks on the Front Range and two weeks in Wyoming, then 11 weeks in six other states mainly Idaho and Montana. I wish I had taken my bike. i haven’t been on it since my last blog post because I have been traveling for work.
While you are in the Springs you have to check out Garden of the Gods. It is just spectacular especially now that warmer weather is there. My wife and son came out and we went there. You can also bike it I believe but lots of hills. if you do get up to Fort Collins, it is a very bike friendly city. Another city I found that was bike crazy on my adventure was Boise, ID. The downtown area is littered with long bike racks for all the people on bikes. Well enough for now. When i can make time I will have to blog about where I have been and all I have seen. Praying for your further adventures and please soak in all of God’s creation out there…from a standstill. We feel God calling us there.

Thanks, Mark! I think I am gonna ride to the garden of the gods tomorrow morning and check it out. I am excited to hear what has been going on with you…I hope your job is going well, it must be interesting to travel all over. Tiring as well though, I am sure. Thank you for the prayers, please know I am praying for you and your family as well.

Thanks Nick! I may take a train home so that I can have my bike to ride with me, but thankfully I have quite a bit of time to spend out here if I want too 🙂

Great stuff! Have a pic of that sign somewhere, too… The mountains are stunning out there. And the gradients are fine, unless you go looking for really hard climbs. Just watch out for bears 😉

I found out my brother only lives 20 miles from the summit of Pike’s peak! I am totally gonna go for it in the next few weeks. I will be watching out for bears, what do they call cyclists again? Meals on wheels?

Just Stop.. (I don’t have to be home until August) Get those photos up, write the book and sign the movie deal!!! And get your talkative brother to put his story up too.
I am so happy and proud of both of you, and hardly know you!! Make sure if your trip home comes way east for some reason that you let me know when you close to my big city. And for a small fee, I’ll even take you the even bigger city. Now go get a new chain, tires, and grease those bearings! I can’t wait to see the pictures from the worlds biggest ball of twine, or plan your ride to co-mingle with RAGBRAI in July, or show up in Niagara falls on 7/24!
By the way, today is Tuesday. (in case you have no idea)

Haha, I need a new chain so badly! If I am near the big city I will let you know…but don’t get your hopes too high, cities are weird 😉

Congratulations. Bike touring is definitely the cat’s meow. I am a regular visitor to Colorado where #1 son lives in the Boulder area. The Garden of the Gods is quite a place. No work till August? Till then, you are living the live of a teenager or retiree. It’s the same think BTW.

I was able to check it out this morning. Great place to ride!! It was only a 16 mile ride total, it feels weird to be done riding for the day. Maybe I will venture out again this evening…

Congratulations Bri! 34 days of cycling is a wonderful achievement.
While you’ve been pedalling across your country, I’ve had a few weeks with jet lag and trying to shake a lingering cold. So I’m glad I returned in time to read this post and send celebratory bicycle bells chiming across the latitudes to where you are 🙂 Well done!
