Saturday Commute

As I crested a hill this morning I saw that a police car had pulled over a pickup truck. From the small snippet of conversation I overheard in passing, I believe Mr. Pickup was about to be ticketed for not wearing his seatbelt.

Benefit #876 of biking: I have never been stopped for not wearing a seatbelt.

I discovered a fun new winter biking game on the way home. At the side of the road some patches of snow and ice had been partially melted, leaving sections of snow/ice/dirt mix  slightly suspended above the road. My mission became clear: to crunch through as much ice as possible. I guess I was tired of commuting home so quietly while snowmobiles raced noisily through the countryside around me.

Crunchable fun.

I crashed through the ice and snow, what a bumpy, loud ride! Shattering ice is lots of fun on a bike with studded tires.

    • Until about a year old, I was such a fearful and cautious person. But once I realized that God loves me and I could trust him with my life, it revolutionized my thinking and every day became an adventure. Now I want to explore and enjoy everything…no matter how small. Life has become something I never believed possible: fun!

  1. I am not certain what God has to do with it. That’s a discussion I would like to have with you one day. Whatever the reason, your attitude is refreshing. Negativity is a killer. Keep it up. And, if you ever get down on yourself, give me a shout.

    • I am not great at explaining it all but fear used to loom in every corner of my life. I was afraid of the future, afraid that I wasn’t good enough, afraid that I wouldn’t be successful financially, afraid that life would be hard and cold…so many things. Sure, I had fun experiences and I enjoyed the little things in life at times but fear kept me from having real joy in life.
Once I started to trust God with the big issues in my life, it lifted a huge weight off of me and I became free to fully enjoy the little things. Hopefully that makes more sense.

And I greatly appreciate your offer, if I ever feel negativity seeping in, I’ll come around and bother you.

      • hmmm … I think I need more perspective. Need to understand more about you. Never mind. You are on the right track and I admire your commitment to cycling throughout the winter and your ability to revel in it.
